Many of us dream of packing up our day-to-day lives for a year to find out what the world has to offer by travelling, but few of us ever do it. For those who do take the plunge, it’s often when they’ve just finished school, while others plan to go when the kids leave home. For most parents of boys, going travelling as a family for a long period is just too daunting to even consider.

We have been inspired by one family who made their dreams a reality and today marks the start of sharing a series of stories that follow this family’s journey around the world to inspire you too.

Here is a little bit about Anita and her family.

In November 2014, Anita handed over the keys to her beautiful coffee shop, Impressions on Scott in Toowoomba, to her managers and left Australia with her husband Orren and two boys Byron (9) and Myles (6) to experience life in different parts of the world.

They made their way to America where they discovered incredible places, met wonderful people, and put down roots for a six-month stint working doing something totally different. They ventured to Egypt, Costa Rica, England, Scotland, Italy, Spain, France and Germany and made so many memories along the way.

During their ten months away, they found they had the time to sit and have so many amazing conversations. Conversations about what they had seen and experienced each day that would give the boys the resilience and the grounding to put them in good stead for the rest of their lives.

Being so far from home for such a long time meant that Anita had to find a new way to communicate with family and friends. She wrote home throughout her travels just like she was having a conversation. Lucky for us, Anita and her boys have shared these conversations with us, to bring you some insight and inspiration.

Every Tuesday, we will feature another part of Anita’s conversations and beautiful photos.

Anita’s conversations played a part in me realising my long-held dream of travel writing and finally putting this dream into action, so I hope they might inspire you too, to travel and to chase your dreams, whatever they may be.

Look out for Anita’s first installment tomorrow.

P.S. Check out the Australian Good Food and Travel Guide review of Anita’s cafe Impressions on Scott and drop in for a coffee and some of the amazing food when you visit Toowoomba.
